Beautiful Morning

It is a good day here in Catalunan Grande. As I woke up and check my Facebook status I was shocked that my face was on the picture of a link of a shared article from this site. I hovered the news feed and tagged posts for likes. So much for the introductory part, may I proceed for what happened this morning. I saw kids on a nearby Subdivision coming as I warm myself for the day. What seems for me to do my routine in that court turned out as a opportunity to mentor young kids approximately around 13-17 years old. These players are ballers of a small school here in Davao called Kids Camp Innovative Learning Center and other small schools near our subdivision. I saw that they have the potential to be a good or to a certain degree great players. Yes Basketball is not all about size, skill or physical gifts but it is about attitude. There were things that I have noticed with these high schoolers in that said place lack the attitude of team chemistry, sportsmanship and determination. Basketball in a small school is just for fun and a sport to release pressures in studies, they are not for school pride in my opinion. I had got this quote from http://www.coachesclipboard.net/Attitude.html “Many less talented teams have accomplished unthinkable goals by their hard work, desire, and team spirit.” One of the attitudes that I have learned in basketball, is how you accept changes in gameplan and handle criticisms from opponents, fans, bystanders and even coaches and teammates no matter what level of play you are into. Second is Sportsmanship this is the bread and butter of all attitude in sports because your opponents bring the best out of you. No matter their level of talent, skill, size, physical tools and experience they have they still bring the best out of you. And last is commitment, you need to be dedicated in practice and in game. No excuses, no shortcuts. The keys to handling these kids, first is patience. Patience is tested in various situations in life which involves unexpected situations and turbulent times, through trials. Romans 5:2-4 says 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Kids are difficult to train these day due to the entitlement mentality that the society brings. Second is resources. Funds and manpower are crucial in the school’s training facilities. Manpower should involve competent coaches with good Basketball wisdom in order for the team to survive, since that is a Small School baby steps are required in order to survive the team. Unlike In larger schools which has a more in depth and complex divisions, smaller schools should make the organization basic but developing and growing. To fund their finances there should be someone who is willing to donate for the program to develop and train players. Lastly it the willpower of the School to expound its diversity through sports especially in the field of basketball. There should be focus in it because in the long run it runs in their priorities and commitment to make players improve and excel in their craft. Yes, to hone their intelligence physically and mentally.
